Living in Barnstable
Barnstable is the largest town on Cape Cod, covering 60 square miles and featuring seven distinctive villages. The largest village, Hyannis, is the commercial and transportation hub of Cape Cod, with an airport and a transportation center for ferries and buses to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Hyannis has a lively waterfront, a thriving downtown with shops and restaurants, and a maritime museum.
Hyannis Port is famous as the summer home of President John F. Kennedy and his family, and visitors can explore the JFK Hyannis Museum. The remaining villages define the essence of Cape Cod life, from Cotuit’s oysters to Centerville’s quiet residential streets and West Barnstable’s Sandy Neck Beach on Cape Cod Bay. The town also has two state-designated cultural districts, with galleries, museums and performance spaces.
